Gratitude February – Day 8

Today I’m thankful for…

A sound mind!

I do not take it for grant that I can think through situations coherently and make good decisions.

In a world that is so fear-driven, I pray that our minds remain soundly yielded to the control of God’s Spirit.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (KJV).

Gratitude February – Day 7

Today I’m thankful again for Family…

My in-laws!

For my mom in-law who has showered us with love and prayers, and supported me through some difficult times.

For my siblings-in-law who have shown me the same respect they accord their brother.

And for my husband’s extended family, some I’ve met, some I’ve only heard about.

What are you thankful for today?

Gratitude February – Day 6

Today I’m thankful for…

My Church Family!

For IBC. We came across a church poster by happenstance, decided to visit the next Sunday in what we thought will be a temporary arrangement. Well, that temporary arrangement has become home. Every Sunday here feels like a big warm hug.

For Graceville Christian Centre. I chuckle whenever I remember what led me to GCC for the first time. I had just moved to a new city and was looking for a church to call home. I visited some great churches and liked most of them, but none really felt like home. And then in a random conversation with my friend she mentioned that at the church her sister attended there was this lady who sold delicious jollof rice after service.

Well, the next Sunday my friend and I got dressed, headed to GCC to worship and very importantly buy said delicious jollof rice.

I don’t remember if we actually bought the rice, but I found myself going there the next Sunday, and the next, and every Sunday and Wednesday for another 5 years, until we moved out of town. I can’t say enough about how my time at GCC helped shape my adult life. It’s also the place where I met my husband.

And for Christ Family Ministries! The church family that was so instrumental in molding my teenage and early adult years. I have not met a more consistent group of people! I’m thankful for you all, and through time and distance you remain some of my dearest people.

Gratitude February – Day 5

Today I’m grateful for…

The little things that make me laugh!

Like Sitcoms!

I’m not big on TV and when I do watch it has to be lighthearted. Sitcoms are my preferred TV genre, my favourite of all time being F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I can quote more lines from that show than I care to admit.

A close second is Modern Family!

The cast of Modern Family is all outstanding, but you see Gloria Pritchett? She cracks me up to no end! Her mannerisms and all, she might as well be a Nigerian woman from Ikorodu. The way she screams ‘Manny!’ and ‘Jay!’, her vanity, her insecurities, and who insists on wearing heels at a Disney Park!? It doesn’t get any more Nigerian than that. She’s the Colombian equivalent of the Nigerian Aunty who wears gele and a full face of makeup, lashes and all, to a simple family picnic.

Who’s your favourite Modern Family Character?

And what are you thankful for today?

Gratitude February – Day 4

Today I’m thankful for…

Seasons!

For the weather that changes, and that everyday isn’t the same.

For the rainy season. And for my favourite harmattan which to me is reminiscent of some treasured childhood memories; school holidays, Christmas, and time on my mom’s farm.

For summer, fall, winter, and for spring that I prefer. Spring which is a reminder that the worst of winter is over and warmer days are around the corner.

I’m thankful also for the seasons of life. Blending into each other so seamlessly that you wake up one day and it hits you that the things you once prayed fervently for and could only dream about are now your reality. I hope that when this realization hits you remember to say a word of thanks.

Gratitude February – Day 3

Today I’m thankful for…

Children!

For mine, and for yours, and for those to come.

Some of my most fulfilling moments were the years I spent volunteering with children at church. These little humans bring so much joy! I’ll ignore the chaos they cause since we’re all about gratitude today 😀

Happy birthday to one of my favourite little humans, V. Grow and shine baby!

Gratitude February – Day 2

Today I’m thankful for…

Family!

For my husband and son. To wake up each day knowing I’m loved, no questions asked.

For my parents. I’m truly blessed with the best!

For my nieces and nephews. I have the best conversations with these little besties of mine. A week ago my 8 year old nephew was telling me all about his 75 friends. Actually he stopped at 75 only because he needed to return his mom’s phone. I’m over 4 times his age and can only aspire to his social skills.

For my siblings and cousins. These ones make me so proud. Nothing beats going through life with inbuilt friends.

For my Aunts and Uncles. I don’t take it for granted that I have such great examples to look up to. And don’t get me started on the humor these ones share. I’ve had some of my best laughs just listening to my aunties gist.

And for friends turned family.

Today’s gratitude post is in loving memory of my uncle who passed last month, Engr Peter Abalaka, my dad’s best friend turned family.

Gratitude February – Day 1

Happy New Month everyone! Well, except those who are already planning to wear a red outfit on the 14th. I’m kidding, you also get a Happy New Month greeting.

It’s Gratitude February on the blog, and each day of this month I’ll be sharing one thing I’m thankful for.

Today I’m thankful for the gift of writing!

That words come to me easily when I pick up my pen (or keyboard in this digital age) is a gift I’m truly grateful for.
